Officers discover hand grenades in RV
Officers arrested a Nevada man Friday after discovering five hand grenades, explosive powder and loaded guns in his recreational vehicle, Oklahoma City police reported.
An officer stopped the vehicle about 1:30 a.m. on S Western Avenue, near Wheeler Park, said Officer Brad Gilmore. Officers found the hand grenades inside the vehicle during the stop.
A bomb squad removed five grenades from the vehicle, which had Nevada plates, and officers took them to a police shooting range, where they were detonated. Officers also removed an unloaded assault rifle and three loaded pistols from the vehicle, police reported.
Scott Michael Boden, 41, was arrested at the scene, said Master Sgt. Gary Knight.
Boden was charged Friday in Oklahoma County District Court with five counts of manufacturing or possessing an explosive device and four counts of possession of an offensive weapon while committing a felony. All counts are felonies.
Boden was pulled over after improperly changing lanes, according to an affidavit. The officer became suspicious of Boden when he gave two different destinations for his trip.
Boden gave consent for a search of his vehicle, and inside, officers found several metal ammunition boxes that contained the grenades and explosive powders.
“Based on training (and) experience the grenades serve no other purpose than to cause destruction,” police wrote in the affidavit.
Boden admitted to officers that he had been experimenting with explosive mixtures, according to the affidavit.
