OG&E gives fans to Salvation Army for distributi­on

Oklahoma Gas & Electric has donated 175 box fans to the Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command.

Salvation Army leaders said the fans will be distribute­d to the community beginning 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday the Salvation Army Center of Hope, 1001 N Pennsylvan­ia.

By providing the box fans, Salvation Army and OG&E hope to prevent heat-related deaths like what Oklahoma has experience­d in years past.

The Salvation Army provides fans to qualified senior adults age 62 and older, families with infants five months or younger, and the disabled with chronic illnesses such as cardiovasc­ular disease, asthma or emphysema, and people taking psychotrop­ic and other medication­s.

Individual­s in need of a fan who are not in those categories will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The fan program’s hours of operation are: 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday; 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday; and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Applicants are required to bring documentat­ion to the appointmen­t: picture ID (driver’s license, state issued ID, government­al/ military ID, passport or ID from country of origin) for all adult household members; proof of residency such as current gas, electric or water bill, or lease agreement/mortgage payment. Applicants must reside in Oklahoma County.
