New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin was arrested Wednesday morning after turning himself in to police, according to a New York Police Department spokeswoman.
Mauldin was charged with misdemeanor assault, according to the NYPD spokeswoman. The assault charge is the result of an alleged April 2 altercation inside a Manhattan nightclub. Mauldin is also being sued by the alleged victim, 22-year-old Jean Lopez, who claims he suffered multiple facial fractures as a result of the incident. Lopez is also suing others involved.
Mauldin, listed at 6-foot-4 and 259 pounds, is accused of punching Lopez. The beating allegedly occurred as a result of Lopez spilling champagne on Mauldin in Chelsea’s Highline Ballroom.
Jaguars claim Rhaney off waivers
The Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed offensive lineman Demetrius Rhaney off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams.
The Jaguars announced the move Wednesday and said they released rookie offensive lineman Parker Collins to make room on the roster for Rhaney.
The 6-foot-2, 301-pound Rhaney was a seventh-round draft pick out of Tennessee State by the Rams in 2014. He spent his first season on injured reserve but played in every regular-season game the past two seasons, starting once at left guard in 2015.
Packers lineman accused of DUI
Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Letroy Guion has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant in Hawaii.
Honolulu police booking records show the nine-year veteran was arrested early Wednesday in Waikiki. He was released after posting $500 bail. Packers spokesman Aaron
Popkey said in a statement that the team is aware and will refrain from making further comment because it’s a legal matter. He says he doesn’t know what Guion was doing in Waikiki.
Guion was suspended without pay by the NFL for the first four games of the 2017 season for violating the league’s policy on performanceenhancing drugs.
He started 15 games last season, making 30 tackles.

ESPN reported Wednesday that the Patriots have reached a two-year agreement with linebacker David Harris who, up until early June, had been the longest-tenured current Jet. On June 6, the Jets released Harris after 10 seasons with the team.
