Medical board revokes licenses for three doctors

An Oklahoma City doctor has had her medical license revoked after the state Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision found drugs and alcohol in her system while on probation.

The board met Thursday morning to review the case of Petrina Nesbitt, who was placed on five-year probation last year.

“She has continued to drink throughout this entire time,” said Jospeh Ashbaker, an assistant attorney general for the board.

After failing a drug test, Nesbitt was found to have propoxyphene, an opioid pain reliever, in her system. The drug has been banned in the U.S. since 2010.

“She possibly could not have been prescribed these drugs,” Ashbaker said. “We have given her chance, after chance, after chance after all of these events.”

Nesbitt also failed two alcohol tests and has had other related problems, including a crash in 2016 on Lake Hefner Parkway in which she plowed into another vehicle while intoxicated.

Nesbitt was ordered to attend the Oklahoma Health Professionals Program for rehab and told the group that she had wanted to commit suicide. She now says she is no longer suicidal.

Nesbitt stopped attending rehab through the Oklahoma Health Professionals Program, only to resume at another program on her own last week in Oklahoma City.

Treatment includes going five days a week for six hours for a duration of six weeks.

“I do not like authority,” Nesbitt said.

She also said she suffers from depression and psychological problems after being raped at 14 and the death of her mother.

“I have lost so much in the last three years ... and I do need help,” she said

The board also allowed two doctors to surrender their licenses and, in lieu of prosecution, agree never to practice in the state again:

• Repeat offender Edward Allen Lee, 76 of Purcell, after he allegedly prescribed drugs to family and friends. He was not at the meeting, but spoke with Ashbaker beforehand.

“It is not primarily young doctors that are doing this stuff,” said board member Robert Howard after the vote.

Lee, a former family doctor, also pleaded no contest on June 14 to a misdemeanor charge of having Bontril, a controlled substance related to amphetamine, at his home. His two-year probationi-ncludes 40 hours of community service, along with other court costs.

• Jan Rosnow, a former pediatric anesthesiologist in Sallisaw, for charges that include writing false prescriptions, prescribing drugs without sufficient examination and improper management of medical records. Ashbaker said taking away her license was needed to keep the state safe.

Rosnow did not show up for review. Ashbaker said she is currently in California with failing health.

Other Actions

• Ben Wade’s physical therapy assistant license was renewed, with the stipulation of six months of probation and a practice plan to be submitted to the board if he wishes to practice again.

• The board tabled voting on a full medical license for Nyree Padilla, based on an ongoing investigation by the states of Louisiana and Colorado, along with her falsely answering a question on her application documents.

• The board approved full medical licenses for Barbara Gasior, Carl Losasso, Larry McCullough and Esther Papp.
