Donald Ray Blackmon, 72, joined his loved ones in heaven on Sunday, June 26, 2017. He was born in Oklahoma City Aug. 21, 1944, to Aurlie & P.R. "Pat" Blackmon. He attended U.S. Grant and Central State. As a very young boy, Donald had fond memories of living in Arcadia, where his mother had a café across the street from the Round Red Barn. Later, in Oklahoma City, he bought a Cushman by delivering The Daily Oklahoman and The Oklahoma Times. His MacklanbergDuncan career began in the mailroom, and he retired there as the Manager of the Annodizing Department. During this time, he was a member of the U.S. ARNG 45th Band and played his trumpet at many ceremonies and events for state and federal dignitaries, governors, presidents and their appointed secretaries. For several years, Donald lived in Arizona and worked at the McSpadden Auto Dealerships.

Later, in Oklahoma City, Donald rededicated his life at Southern Hills Baptist Church and became very active for the Lord. He served as a missionary in the Terra Santa Amazon Valley, South America. For many years, he had participated in the production of the Layman Inc 30-minute radio program, which is broadcast in several states. Donald was a dedicated member of the SHBC orchestra and was a prayer warrior in the SHBC prayer room. Earlier, he also had a 30-minute television program on DayStar before the station was sold to become the station it is today.

In 1992, after 48 years of the single life, while playing volleyball with the singles group at SHBC, he met Grace Arismendez. Donald and Grace were married 24 years and shared many good times and meals with family and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Aurlie and Pat Blackmon; sister, Beverly Siler; brother-in-law, Udell McSpadden; and stepson, Bradford Kernaghan. He is survived by his wife, Grace; sister, Patsy McSpadden; sister, Betty Lou Smith (Wendell); brother, Glenn Blackmon (Marlene); stepson, Vince Kernaghan (Debbie); stepdaughter, Suzanne Garvey (Jeff); step-granddaughter, Jessica Grace Garvey; and step-grandson, Jacob Gerard Garvey. He dearly loved his many nieces and nephews.

The family extends their gratitude to the Integris Hospice Staff for their loving care and support. We will forever be grateful for each one across the United States who lifted us up in prayer to provide the strength to care for Donald. It was wonderful to be the recipient of the visible miracles God provided. He has bestowed us with mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
