OSU releases food safety information app
Oklahoma State University’s Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center recently released a new mobile app providing food safety information.
The FAPC Connect App gives users food safety and other food-related information, said Mandy Gross, the center's communications services manager, in a news release.
The app, available on the App Store and Google Play, gives users information on different topics, like food safety, and access to videos, articles and training by topics and experts, according to the release.
“Food safety affects food processors and consumers alike,” Gross said.
“Each year about one in six Americans get sick from foodborne diseases. FAPC strives to meet the food safety and security needs of the food industry, and the FAPC Connect app is another way to meet these needs.”
Creation of the app was made possible by donations from a number of companies in the food industry, according to the release. Center Director Roy Escoubas said in the release that industry support was key.
“The food industry understands the importance and necessity of having a mobile app that provides information about food safety, processing and FAPC in general,” Escoubas said.
“We would never have been able to develop and launch the app without the help of our industry sponsors.”
Since 1997, the Food & Agricultural Products Center, a part of OSU’s Division of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources, has worked with food and agricultural processors and entrepreneurs to keep them on the forefront of processing and technology.
“I can’t think of a better way to help celebrate our 20 year anniversary than with the launch of the FAPC Connect app,” Gross said.
“We are continually searching for new and improved ways to distribute information to help the food and agricultural industries and consumers in general.
The mobile app provides another avenue for the center to reach more people.”
