WORLD CUP OF SOFTBALL ROUNDUP
The second day of the World Cup of Softball XII took place Thursday at Hall of Fame Stadium. Here is a recap from each game in which Team USA did not participate.
Japan 8, Mexico 1:
Japan continued its dominance with a blowout of Mexico early Thursday. Mexico held a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but Yu Yamamoto tripled to start a scoring barrage in the third. Japan scored four runs in the inning followed by four in the third to put away Mexico for good.
Japan 11, Philippines 1:
Japan didn’t skip a beat following its huge victory against Mexico. Eight runs in the first inning allowed Japan to coast to another win.
USA JWNT 11, Mexico 5:
Baylee Klinger’s double for the USA Junior Women’s National Team scored two to give the team an early lead in the first. Dejah Mulipola’s grand slam was the highlight of a huge fourth inning in which USA JWNT outscored Mexico 7-1.
Canada 9, Philippines 2:
Canada didn’t look back after an Erika Polidori home run in the first scored three to put the team up 3-2. It was smooth sailing from there as Canada allowed only five hits on the afternoon.
Australia 6, USA JWNT 5:
The junior team almost notched another victory if not for Taylah Tsitsikronis’ walk-off grand slam. USA JWNT led 5-1 heading into the seventh, but a run before the grand slam opened the door for Australia.
Australia 3, Puerto Rico 2:
Australia took over for good in the sixth inning after Jessica Torpey singled to drive in Meghan King. The run came after Puerto Rico tied it at 2 off a single from Claudio in the top of the inning.
