The Oklahoman

Think peace

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Participants at the metro area “Eye17” Episcopal Church UA youth will focus on the theme “Path to Peace.”

EDMOND — EYE17, the 2017 Episcopal youth event, is expected to draw more than 1,300 Episcopal Church USA youths, adult mentors, workshop leaders, speakers and volunteers to the metro area Monday through Friday.

Much of the event, with one notable exception, will be at the University of Central Oklahoma. It is being held in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma.

Bronwyn Clark Skov, the Episcopal Church USA’s director for formation, youth and young adult ministries, said EYE 2017 is geared for youth in grades 9-12 during the 2016-2017 academic year and their adult leaders.

The theme of EYE17, “Path to Peace,” is grounded in the Beatitudes as found in Matthew’s Gospel and is intended to serve as a call for participants to focus on peacemaking and the ways each member of the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement may pursue a path to peace.

Activities include a news conference set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at UCO’s Hamilton Field House. Participants will be the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, Episcopal Church presiding bishop and primate; the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, president of the Episcopal Church House of Deputies; and the Rt. Rev. Edward J. Konieczny, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma.

On Wednesday, EYE17 participants will attend an 8:30 p.m. candlelight vigil at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
