App features serve researchers
For The Oklahoman
Evernote is an app that can be installed on your computer and used to organize and store documents in their own note or make additional notes about each document. You can create:
•A transcription of a document, and the source citation. Then make additional notes about that particular document. Or create a to-do list of tasks associated with the document.
•Links to blogs that don’t have email subscriptions and can be read by individuals
•Lists of e-books to obtain from the library
•A list of to-do tasks associated with a document
•A source citation to use when needed
Notes also can be used:
•As research logs for questions you are trying to answer
•To store analysis of DNA matches
•To track contacts with family members •To store copies of documents in their own note and create additional information about each document
There are several books about Evernote for genealogy that can be purchased: “How to Use Evernote for Genealogy” by Kerry Scott, and Brett Kelly’s book “Evernote Essentials.” Drew Smith’s book “Organize Your Genealogy: Strategies and Solutions for Every Researcher” has reference to Evernote throughout the book. You also can search the internet for additional information about Evernote.
