Backpacks sought for nonprofit to provide to foster children
Citizens Caring for Children (CCC) begins its Back2School 2017 shopping event this week.
CCC is hosting a Back2School shopping event, through Monday, serving 600 school-aged children in foster care. Each child will receive a new outfit, backpack and school supplies. Parents can learn about appointments and sign their foster children up at http://cccokc.org/getinvolved/programs.
Volunteers are serving as personal shoppers guiding foster children through the shopping experience as well as helping to restock shelves between appointments.
In a news release, Citizens Caring for Children extended a thank you to partners, Circle of Care, The Care Center, and Cleats4Kids. Circle of Care provided school supply donations in preparation for Back2School. During the event, Cleats4Kids will allow foster care children to book appointments and receive their sporting equipment and The Care Center will provide resources for foster parents. "Back-to-school time for a foster child often means a new school in an unfamiliar community, different rules and new faces," said Lynne Roller, executive director of Citizens Caring for Children, in a news release.
"Providing school supplies and back-to-school clothing are two key ways caring individuals can support foster children through a time of considerable anxiety."
Citizens Caring for Children has requested additional backpacks via a news release. Supplies can be dropped off at CCCs offices, 730 W. Wilshire, Suite 111 & 112, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cash donations can be made online at www. cccokc.org/donate.
