EDMOND — Debreon Davis, 30, is the new principal of Edmond North High School.

“I’m looking forward to all the students being here,” she said Monday, shortly after learning she had been hired by the school board.

For the past five years she has been assistant principal at Edmond Memorial High School.

“They’re really going to miss her there,” said board member Lee Ann Kuhlman. “She has done such a good job.”

Davis succeeds Jason Pittenger, who has accepted the post of executive director for accreditation at the state Education Department. Pittenger had been North principal since 2011.

Davis said she plans to be at North for a long time.

She’s a product of Edmond Schools, having attended Charles Haskell Elementary and Summit Middle School and graduating from Edmond Santa Fe High School in 2004.

She graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma and earned a master’s degree from Southern Nazarene University. She started her career at Santa Fe in 2008 as a business teacher.

“I’m excited about this opportunity,” she said. “For now I’m learning about the staff here at North.”

Davis comes from an Edmond family that is rooted in education and service. Her father, Darrell Davis, is a city council member, and her mother, Marti Davis, is on staff at Santa Fe High School.

Davis serves as a board member of the Oklahoma City Dream Center, is a volunteer and student mentor with Young Life and is a children’s ministry volunteer at Bridgeway Church.

“I’ve spoken to my father already,” she said Monday. “He’s excited for me as well.”

Her appointment drew praise from Superintendent Bret Towne.

“Students love Debreon Davis,” Towne said. “They sense her deep commitment to them and her willingness to help meet their needs. In addition, she is wellrespected by her peers, possessing a maturity and wisdom beyond her years. She has been a rising star in our district and we are confident that she will be an excellent leader at our largest high school.”

School board members announced Davis as principal after a 35-minute executive session. The vote was 4-0 with Kathleen Duncan absent.
