YUKON — At the end of every academic year, William Woods University recognizes a select group of students as Distinguished Scholars. Faculty members designate one graduating senior from each program. While eligibility requires a minimum 3.4 grade point average, faculty consider other relevant academic factors in the selection process.

This year, 24 seniors were recognized, including Rochelle Garcia, a business administration major from Yukon. Garcia was named the Distinguished Scholar for Business Administration. Founded in 1870, William Woods is based on 250 scenic acres in Fulton, Missouri.

Other honors

Assistant U.S. Attorneys David P. Petermann and Matt Dillon have been recognized as Region 1 prosecutors of the year by the Association of Oklahoma Narcotic Enforcers, said Mark A. Yancey, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma. They received the awards during a conference on Aug. 3. The recognition resulted from the successful prosecution of a large drug distribution and money laundering organization.

Petermann has prosecuted drug and violent crimes in the Oklahoma City U.S. attorney’s office since 2007. He serves as the office’s senior litigation counsel. Previously he was an assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Arizona.

Dillon joined the U.S. attorney’s office in 2014, after serving as a team leader in the Oklahoma County district attorney’s office. He is the office liaison to the Joint Terrorism Task Force for the Western District of Oklahoma.
