Defending champion: Millwood

The young and talented Falcons improved every week, which proved to be bad news for the rest of the class. Millwood ran the table, held five opponents scoreless and never scored less than 30 points in a game. And most of that team returns this season.

Returning stars

•Israel Antwine, DT/OL, Millwood: On a roster loaded with talent, Antwine stands out. At 6-foot-2 and 286 pounds, he’s a powerful defensive lineman who was once committed to Ole Miss. He’s since reopened his recruitment and added an offer from Texas.

•Camden Cargill, QB, Christian Heritage: A talented passer who makes the Crusaders go, Cargill is coming off a year in which he passed for 2,638 yards and 26 touchdowns while leading the way to the second round of the playoffs.

•Dakota Pridemore, Ath., Luther: He’s earned the athlete title based on his versatility. Last season, he had 900 receiving yards, 310 rushing yards and four kick return scores. Now, he’s also an option at quarterback for the Lions.

Key game: Millwood at Christian Heritage, Sept. 29

Looking for a big game in the middle of the season? This one’s a good place to start and it likely has district title implications. CHA feels more prepared to face Millwood this season with the combination of Cargill and receiver Bridge Bullard. Millwood, meanwhile, is possibly more talented than last season when it ran away with the district title.
