Defending champion: Antlers

Antlers and Hartshorne both finished 5-1 in district play in 2016, but the Bearcats claimed the 2A-6 crown thanks to a 37-27 win over Hartshorne. Antlers will try to repeat as district champion with star running back

Kyler Gee back for his senior season. The team also returns tackling-machine Matthew Bloodworth at linebacker and Kaden Speer at quarterback.

Returning stars •Kyler Gee, RB, Antlers:

The senior running back headlines an experienced backfield for Antlers. He was a focal point for the Bearcats offense a season ago, earning All-District co-MVP honors last season after racking up over 1,000 rushing yards.

•Trey Jordan, RB, Hugo: The Buffaloes are young — so young that Jordan is the lone senior on Hugo’s 2017 roster. He’s a speedy running back who will be the catalyst for an offense that should be able to compete with its athleticism.

•Deontei Braggs, QB/DB, Spiro:

The 6-foot-1 junior is a talented dual-threat quarterback. He recorded 834 yards and 13 touchdowns through the air and rushed for 835 yards and eight touchdowns.

Big question: How fast can Pratt win at Valliant?

Scott Pratt left his head-coaching position at Hartshorne for the same role at Valliant over the offseason. Pratt takes over a team that went 0-6 in district play and had only one victory in 2016. Valliant returns much of the same roster, but it remains to be seen how quickly Pratt can turn the program around.
