Dodgers lose ground in standings
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a run-scoring double in the seventh inning, leading the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 3-1 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Tuesday.
With the win, the Sky Sox leads the Dodgers by nine games in the American North Division.
Rob Scahill struck O’Koyea Dickson out with a runner on second to end the game for his ninth save of the season.
Yadiel Rivera scored on Nieuwenhuis’ double to give the Sky Sox a 2-1 lead after he hit a single with two outs.
The Sky Sox tacked on another run in the eighth when Chris Colabello hit an RBI single, driving in Mauricio Dubon.
Both Colorado Springs starter Taylor Jungmann and Oklahoma City starter David Hale delivered strong pitching performances. Jungmann allowed one run and four hits over six innings. He also struck out eight and walked five. Hale (2-3) went seven innings, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out eight to take the tough loss in the Pacific Coast League game.
Wily Peralta (1-0) went one scoreless inning, allowing one hit while walking one to get the win.
The Dodgers left some scoring opportunities on the table, stranding 12 baserunners in the loss.
The Sky Soximproved to 12-4 against the Dodgers this season.
