Community Christian volleyball coach Stephanie Myrick met with her team last Friday to deliver a message.

District play is about to pick up. Use the momentum from a strong match earlier with No. 1 Christian Heritage to make a push.

A 3-1 in over Class 4A No. 2 Bethany on Tuesday is a good way to start.

CCS dropped the first set, but then dominated the next three sets.

“It just seemed like it was mainly us beating ourselves at that point,” Myrick said. “Once we got to the second set we woke up. “

In the third set alone, Brooke Cordova had five straight points from serves. Jacy Braziel was also dominant throughout the entire match.

Now, CCS gets a match with Class 5A No. 2 Mount St. Mary on Thursday.

“Play as hard as we can, take a few sets — if not more — and see what happens,” Myrick said.

CHA perfect in win over rival

CHA was nearly flawless in last week’s three-set victory over Mount St. Mary.

The team passed well behind Tiffany Fraley. They hit well. They served well.

“We played as good of match as I’ve ever seen us play,” CHA coach Heath Kufahl said. “Almost perfect. I’ve coached for 10 years. that’s the best match I’ve seen one of our teams play.”

Still, that didn’t keep CHA from dropping a match Tuesday to Victory Christian before rebounding to beat Lincoln Christian.

“I was proud of our girls to come back,” Kufahl said.
