Jones’ Shaw commits to Iowa State

-

Jones receiver Sean Shaw Jr. wanted to narrow his recruiting options once the season started. Four weeks in, it’s down to one.

Shaw announced his commitment to Iowa State on his Twitter page Monday morning.

He chose the Cyclones over offers from Kansas, SMU, North Texas and Wyoming.

Shaw is ranked No. 18 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30 rankings for the state’s top college recruits.

A 6-foot-6, 205-pound senior, he’s already off to a fast start. Through four games, he’s got 19 receptions for 298 yards and four touchdowns. Last season, he caught 67 passes for 869 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.

For Shaw’s career, he’s totaled 2,412 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.

Three top in-state recruits to receive All-American jerseys

It’s a big week for three of the state’s top college recruits.

Westmoore’s Brey Walker, Putnam City’s Ron Tatum III and Owasso’s Josh Proctor will all receive their U.S. Army All-American Bowl jerseys in special ceremonies at their school.

Walker, an Oklahoma commitment, receives his jersey at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Tatum, also an OU commitment, receives his at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Proctor, an Ohio State commitment, gets his jersey at 1:40 p.m. Thursday.

Altus’ Vargas has huge night

Class 5A No. 3 Altus rolled to a third victory last week behind the legs of quarterback Jake Vargas.

Running the triple-option attack to near perfection, Vargas accounted for six touchdowns in the 65-20 rout of Elk City.

Vargas rushed for 192 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries. He completed two passes — both for touchdowns.

That sets up a big matchup Friday night at No. 7 Del City to open to district play.

Depew’s Quinones runs wild

In a week of offensive explosion, Depew running back Steve Quinones didn’t want to be left out.

Quinones rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries in Class B No. 5

Depew’s 44-20 victory over Class C No. 6 Southwest Covenant.

Depew (3-0) travels to Keota on Friday.
