Second Oklahoma escapee caught

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

The second of two men who escaped from a prison transport van in August is back in custody, the U.S. Marshals Service reported Wednesday.

U.S. marshals on Wednesday arrested Darren Taylor Walp, 37, of Crum Lynne, Pennsylvania, after a standoff at a Norwood, Missouri, truck stop. Authorities said the standoff lasted several hours and a SWAT team assisted in taking Walp into custody.

Marshals also were able to track down Andrew Jason Foy, 32, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, who was found on Friday at a hotel in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. Marshals were assisted by the Falls Township Police Department.

Walp and Foy were being driven to different jails by Inmate Services Corporation on Aug. 22, when they overpowered two escort officers and stole the van near U.S. 412 in Orienta in northwest Oklahoma. Four other inmates were in the van, and the two men allegedly told them they could escape or get out of the van.

After leaving the inmates and the escort officers along the highway, the two men fled in the van.

Authorities think they abandoned the van and in Ringwood stole a pickup, which was later found in Lawton.

Arrest warrants were issued for the men on Aug. 23 in Major County District Court, with both men facing counts of kidnapping, robbery and assault.

Foy and Walp were last seen in Oklahoma about 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 24, when they stopped at a convenience store near Sapulpa. They were seen traveling east from the store in a black tractor-trailer that was reported stolen in El Reno.

At the time of the escape, Foy was being taken to Wyoming and Walp to Kansas. Foy was wanted on felony warrants for failure to appear in several cases and Walp was wanted on a warrant stemming from a case involving a tractortrailer stolen in Kansas.
