A man allegedly aimed a loaded 9 mm pistol at the playground of an Oklahoma City elementary school while children played outside.

Blaize Dejuan Jones, 24, has been charged with pointing a firearm at another, a felony, in connection with the Sept. 15 incident outside of Horace Mann Elementary, near NW 45 and N Classen.

Oklahoma City Police responded to the school around 10 a.m. after receiving a call that a man riding as a passenger in a Ford Explorer had pointed a gun at children on the playground, according to a court affidavit.

Police found a loaded handgun on the floorboard of the vehicle and arrested Jones.

The pistol was chamber-loaded and had rounds in the magazine, police reported.

Jones told police “the pistol was his and his record was clean and that he was allowed to have it,” according to the affidavit.

School staff immediately took all children off the playground, put the school on lockdown and called 911, said Beth Harrison, a spokeswoman for Oklahoma City Public Schools.

Police responded to the school within 5 minutes, she said.

“We were really pleased with OKCPD’s response and that the school followed proper security protocols,” Harrison said.
