NORMAN — Freshman CeeDee Lamb has been Oklahoma’s most consistent receiver through four games.

With 15 catches for 281 yards and three touchdowns, he’s the only Sooners receiver with at least three catches in each of OU’s games thus far.

He and the Sooners get a week off before hosting Iowa State on Oct. 7.

Lamb spoke with reporters this week before he returns home to the Houston area for the weekend:

Q: Was it good to go through some adversity at Baylor?

A: Yeah, I feel like it taught us a lesson that we can’t take it easy on any of our opponents because we’re going to have a target on our backs. We have to come out strong.

Q: You had a couple of key blocks in that game, on runs by Abdul Adams and Trey Sermon. Were you asked to do much blocking in high school?

A: Yeah, I did. I did a lot of blocking actually. They harped about it a lot at out. It just made me more of an overall receiver.

Q: Do you take pride in that—opening holes for running backs, especially Sermon?

A: I feel like I scored the touchdown when Trey does that.

Being a good teammate, opening up the field for everyone to be successful. That’s why I did what I did.

Q: As a receiver, was it fun watching the running game have success in the second half?

A: I was fine with it, actually, because we were moving the ball and that’s all that matters.

Q: Do you have a sense that the wide receivers are getting better?

A: I feel like day-byday or week-by-week, we’re growing as a unit—leaning on each other, counting on each other, trusting each other to make the play. The trust factor is huge for us. If you don’t have that trust, then we’re not going to be as tough as a unit.

Q: Do you mind coming off the field?

A: I don’t have a problem coming off the field, but I don’t like being hurt and then coming off the field because I feel like I’m letting the team down. That’s the last thing I want to do. Q: What’s 1159? A: (Laughs) Eleven-59 is a group. It’s me, Marquise (Brown) and (Charleston) Rambo. It’s us three and we’re trying to make a mark on college football—the universe actually. It’s just three guys trying to make it out, honestly. It accounts for the whole group. We all set a limit for ourselves and we all have a goal we’re trying to reach.

Q: Why the name? A: Rambo is No. 11, Marquise Is No. 5 and I was 9. Put it all together and get 1159.
