An unbelievable comeback
Enid pulled off the most incredible high school comeback of the season Friday night, rallying from five touchdowns down with less than 11 minutes to play to defeat Putnam West.
It’s been almost two weeks since Putnam North coach Rick Scott reached the milestone. He still can’t believe it happened. Scott earned his 500th career win as a softball coach on Sept. 16.
“I’m very humbled by it because there’s only a handful of coaches in the state of Oklahoma that can say they’ve done that,” Scott said. “I’ve joined a pretty elite group and it’s very humbling to me that I’ve done that. Also, it’s a great tribute to the kids I’ve coached. They put me there.”
Scott is in his first season at Putnam North. The Panthers are 19-13 entering next week’s regional tournament at Sand Springs.
Scott, who now holds 504 wins, recorded most of the victories at Piedmont, where he coached 14 seasons. Last season, he coached at Elk City.
Also, veteran coach Craig Taliaferro also recently earned his 300th career win. Currently at Ninnekah, he’s coached at Little Axe, Frederick, Lexington, Vici and Gracemont over 21 years.
