Threat suspect served time for bomb hoax

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

A man accused of threatening on Facebook to carry out a massacre has also served time in prison for threatening to blow up the Oklahoma City federal building.

Roderick Lamar Robinson, 39, posted a terrorism hoax that threatened violence in Oklahoma City and San Antonio, Texas, Oklahoma City police report.

Robinson “made statements comparing his plan to the Las Vegas shootings,” according to the police report.

He wrote on Facebook about rigging his cellphone to cloak his location, the report states.

Initially thought to be in San Antonio, Robinson was arrested Tuesday night by Oklahoma City and Warr Acres officers at an apartment in the 6100 block of N MacArthur Boulevard.

Robinson was arrested in January 2009 after walking into the Oklahoma City federal building carrying a black backpack and handed a security guard a note claiming there was a bomb in the bag and another in a car on the west end of the building, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Oklahoma City federal court.

The building was evacuated and streets closed for hours, but no bombs were found.

Robinson pleaded guilty to the bomb hoax and was sentenced in September 2009 to 14 months in federal prison, and three years of probation, according to court records.

In a Facebook post, Oklahoma City police stated, “We always encourage the public to ‘see something, say something.’ This was a fantastic example of citizens doing just that. Through our department’s Facebook page, we received a number of messages alerting us of Mr. Robinson’s posts. We can’t thank the public enough. We’d also like to thank officers from the San Antonio Police Department and Warr Acres Police Department, who helped ensure this was a quick, smooth operation.”
