Putnam West wrestler dies over weekend
Putnam City West High School wrestler Alex Morgan died over the weekend, according to the Patriots’ wrestling Facebook page.
A cause was not disclosed.“It is with great sadness, that we say goodbye to one of our own,” the social media post read. “Alex Morgan a two year starter who was about to start his junior year passed away this weekend. He will be missed and never forgotten by his wrestling family. Our condolences go out to this wonderful family. He was loved by all who knew him. He represented patriot wrestling well always. We will miss you.”
Putnam West athletic director Jeff Hock confirmed Morgan’s death to The Oklahoman.
“Out of respect to the family we don’t have a cause yet,” Hock said. “I can tell you that we did have a young man pass away over the weekend. Other than that, I don’t have any details at this time.
“Everything is being held closely to the family. Even my wrestling coach doesn’t have any of the details.”
Hock said wrestling coach Heath Tejeda was unavailable for comment. Hock said the loss was immediately felt at the school.
“It’s certainly shaken us at the core,” Hock said. “We lost a teacher a week into the school year, so anytime you’re dealing with a loss … we consider each other family — students, faculty, coaches, administrators. We spend in many cases more time with each other this year than our families. It’s difficult. As a father of two young boys it’s difficult to process.”
