CW’s sticking with superheroes
The CW network’s ties to DC Comics superheroes remain strong, as shows starring comic-book heroes return in “Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow” and “Legends of Tomorrow.”
Of most note to Oklahoma TV watchers may be “Flash,” as University of Oklahoma graduate and Tulsa native Sterling Gates has joined the Season 4 writing staff of the series.
“Thrilled to announce I’ve joined the writing staff of ‘The Flash’: Season Four!,” Gates wrote on Twitter back in July.
Collider talked to Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco, aka Vibe, on the show, at Comic-Con International: San Diego about season four of “Flash.”
“Six months have passed since the disappearance of Barry Allen and the team is sort of clutching at straws to keep the city together, and though Kid Flash and Vibe are out in the field doing their thing and trying to keep it together, there is a unanimous feeling among the remaining members that it’s just not the same without Barry,” Valdes said. “We cannot keep the villains at bay with the same efficiency that he used to. So in light of that, Cisco does whatever it takes to get his friends back.”
DC Comics villain The Thinker and hero the Elongated Man have been confirmed to appear in upcoming episodes, according to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg at www.tvinsider.com. But the new hero might not become fast friends with Barry Allen.
“There’s going to be a lot of conflict between them in terms of how to be a good guy,” Kreisberg told TV Insider.
Season four of “Flash” will debut at 7 p.m. Tuesday on The CW.
What can fans look for on the other returning CW superhero shows?
‘Supergirl’
“Supergirl” will kick off its third season at 7 p.m. Monday on The CW. This season’s villain is Reign, a bioengineered Kryptonian.
“We’ve never really seen the big bad become the big bad,” executive producer Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. “The journey that Reign takes this season is watching her realize her heritage and see how it manifests.”
‘Arrow’
“Arrow” moves to Thursdays this fall, where it will follow “Supernatural.” This Thursday will be the season premiere, at 8 p.m. According to Entertainment Weekly, Kirk Acevedo has joined the cast in a recurring role as Ricardo Diaz, aka Richard Dragon, a character from the pages of DC Comics. Deathstroke and the Black Siren also are set to return.
‘Legends of Tomorrow’
“Legends of Tomorrow” will follow “Flash” on Tuesdays in the 8 p.m. time slot.
The time-traveling Legends will face off against their former mentor, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), who is coming after them for breaking the timeline at the end of Season Two. As season three begins, the Legends must stop Julius Caesar from conquering the modern world.
All four of the shows are set to meet on Nov. 27 and 28 on The CW, with promotional art titling the story “Crisis on Earth X.” During the crossover, “Arrow” will air at 8 p.m. Monday, following “Supergirl.” “Flash” and “Legends” will remain on Tuesday.
