Crescent practices payback

CASHION — It had been almost a decade since Crescent had last gotten a win against its rival Cashion.

So Crescent tried to provide 10 years’ worth of payback in one night, destroying Cashion on their home field, 54-14.

The Tigers were led by the combo of quarterback Hunter Bowers and running back Dylan Emery, who combined for more than 450 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

Crescent head coach J.L. Fisher said he feels like this was just a sneak peak of the progress that his program has made.

“It feels good, the kids have worked so hard,” Fisher said. “Cashion is a big rival and that was in the back of our kid’s minds, but I told them we have a district championship on the line. Tonight was our first big test and I think we passed pretty well.”

On the night, Bowers ran 13 times for 174 yards and two touchdowns, while also passing for 170 yards

and three touchdowns.

Emery trucked over Cashion defenders all night to the tune of 240 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries.

“We knew what we should do,” Emery said. “We came in and showed them exactly how good we are.”

Emery said it was personal for him against Cashion; just a few years ago Crescent was wrecked by Cashion 82-0. Emery said they had something to prove.

“We have come a long ways and we knew this day would come,” he said. “I wish we could’ve scored more.”

In addition to the gaping holes the offensive line made for both Bowers and Emery on the offensive side, nearly the same personnel put together a complete shutdown of the Cashion running game on the defensive side.

Cashion was held to just 1 yard rushing on 26 carries.

Cashion quarterback Griffin Lamb finished the night with 177 yards passing and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions.

“Absolutely outstanding pressure on them all night,” Fisher said. “We got great pressure and penetration and that was key because we know how dangerous their offense can be.”

Crescent fans spent the moments after the game on Cashion’s field, standing near the giant paw print at midfield and celebrating with the players. While looking at his team and the fans, Fisher reflected on how far Crescent has come in the past few years.

He thinks he might have a special group.

“I think this is just a taste of what we can do,” Fisher said. “I think we are on the rise. This group is battle tested and they have been going in week in and week out and we just want to build on that.”
