Instead, the Jaguars will spend the next few days trying to figure out what went wrong. Westmoore’s usually potent offense managed only 35 yards rushing and 187 yards against the Tigers, while Broken Arrow rolled up 392 rushing yards and 481 yards overall.

“This one’s on me,” Westmoore coach Lorenzo Williams said. “I didn’t get my guys ready to play. It was a bad job on my part. … We don’t really have to go back to the drawing board. I’ve got to do a better job as a head coach getting my guys ready to play.”

Skyler Segraves booted a 24-yard field goal on the Tigers’ first series to give Broken Arrow the early lead and the Tigers scored two second-quarter touchdowns, each after a defensive stop. After holding Westmoore on downs at the Broken Arrow 45, the Tigers needed just five plays to score on a 12-yard run by Corben Chambers.

After Everett’s third interception, at the Broken Arrow 3, Tolbert scooted 63 yards to flip the field, then later finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Segraves’ conversion kick put the Tigers up 17-0.

“I’ve been telling everybody we’ve got a very, very good football team,” Broken Arrow coach David Alexander said. “We’ve just been frustrated. We just haven’t been able to finish games. … Our team has believed me for five weeks that they are good. We just took it out on Westmoore tonight. We pushed them around offensively and defensively and controlled the line of scrimmage.”

It was only 20-0 entering the fourth quarter, but two Broken Arrow touchdowns just nine seconds apart to start the quarter ended Westmoore’s hopes. Fullback Kaizer Newell scored on a 1-yard run, and after Westmoore failed to cover a deep onside kickoff, Cortes scored from 26 yards out. On Broken Arrow’s next series, he reeled off a 77-yard touchdown run on his 23rd and final carry, hurdling a Westmoore defender along the way.

“I thought of it, so I didn’t second-guess myself and I just did it,” Cortes said of the hurdle. “It happened.”

Westmoore’s only score came with 2:39 left, on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Braxton Bohrofen to Damoriea Vick against the Tigers’ reserves.
