Bob Ricks, former Edmond Police chief and FBI leader, pictured, is to receive the 2017 Salt & Light Award at a dinner set for Tuesday in Oklahoma City.
Bob Ricks will be the recipient of the Salt & Light Award at an event set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 1700 NE 63.
The Salt & Light Award is given annually by the Christian Business Men’s Connection of Oklahoma City, a faith-based group known as the CBMC, to honor an individual whose life is the personification of the “salt and light” that Christ asked believers to be in Matthew 5:13-16.
Ricks, a native of Houston, Texas, has served as a leader of several high-profile agencies in Oklahoma. He served more than 47 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, rising from the position of special agent to special agent-in-charge of the FBI for Oklahoma.
In October 1995, Ricks was appointed Commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety and cabinet Secretary for Safety and Security. In 2002, he was appointed the first Director of Homeland Security for Oklahoma by Gov. Frank Keating.
After eight years of service with the Department of Public Safety, Ricks was hired as the Edmond police chief. During his tenure with the Edmond Police Department, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. He retired from the Edmond police chief post in February.
Ricks is an active member of Henderson Hills Baptist Church, where he taught juniors and seniors in the youth ministry for more than 10 years. Ricks has been married to his wife, Janis, for 33 years. The couple have two married children and five grandchildren.
