Open house is Thursday at Meadow Cliff Apartments

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Volunteers of America, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit providers of affordable housing, will host an open house 2 p.m. Thursday at the renovated Meadow Cliff Apartments, an affordable housing community for low-income seniors in Oklahoma City.

Meadow Cliff, a 57-unit project at 7507 S Ross Ave., was built in 1989 with Section 202 federal money to provide housing for the elderly.

Its $8 million renovation built new fencing and upgraded lighting, windows, security features and roofs. Within the units, new carpeting, flooring, furnaces, cabinets, doors and bath accessories were installed. The project also expanded community room space, added offices, larger laundry facilities, a wellness exercise area and a generator.

The improvements and upgrades were done with the assistance of low income housing tax credits and community development block grant funds provided through Oklahoma City.

Volunteers of America is one of the largest nonprofit developers and providers of affordable housing in the nation, owning and operating more than 500 affordable housing properties with 19,000 units serving more than 25,000 people each year. It also provides skilled nursing care and assisted living for seniors.

The open house will be attended by Mike King, national president and CEO, Volunteers of America and Pam Richardson, president and CEO of Volunteers of America of Oklahoma, Inc., organizers said.
