Sonic Corp. continues to make life easier for teachers through its Limeades for Learning campaign, which provides schools with essential supplies and materials.

Representatives from the Oklahoma City-based restaurant operator recently presented five teachers from Capitol Hill High School in the Oklahoma City district with checks to pay for classroom projects.

English teacher Patrick Kaup was among them. Kaup received $277 to buy a set of books he thought his students would really enjoy: “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien.

“This takes the burden off of us to feel compelled to spend our money on really exciting lessons for kids,” he said. “The kids always love it when we get that support from the community. It makes them feel like they are important and worth spending money on.”

Including the Capitol Hill High donation, Sonic is donating $130,000 in support of 274 teachers, district officials said.

“These have been a really hard couple of years due to budget cuts, and many times teachers don’t have the resources to get the supplies they need for their classrooms,” Oklahoma City Public Schools Superintendent Aurora Lora said.

“So it’s been really great the DonorsChoose.org gives them an opportunity to post the things they need on their website and that we have partners like Sonic willing to step up and help our teachers get the supplies they need.”

Through Limeades for Learning, a partnership between Sonic Drive-In and DonorsChoose. org, Sonic allocates $1 million to public school projects across the country three times a year.

Between now and Oct. 22, the public is invited to visit Limeades for Learning.com and vote daily for a public school teacher project they would like to see Sonic fulfill.
