Food bank, school district to offer fall break meals

Oklahoma City school district students 17 and younger may receive free lunch and snacks at seven sites throughout the metro area during fall break.

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City school district partnered together for the program.

“No child should ever have to worry about whether or not they will have food. That’s why the fall break program is so important,” said Katie Fitzgerald, the food bank’s chief executive officer.

Through the program, students may receive a sack lunch and a snack Monday through Friday through Oct. 20, unless otherwise noted, at the following Oklahoma City locations and times:

• Douglass Recreation Center, 900 N Frederick Douglass Ave. Lunch, 1 p.m.; snack, 4 p.m.

• Downtown YMCA, 1 NW 4. Lunch, 11:30 a.m.; snack, 3:30 p.m.

• Oklahoma City Indian Clinic, 123 N McCormick at the Let’s Play Soccer Arena. Lunch, 11:45 a.m.; snack, 3:30 p.m. This location is serving only on Oct. 19-20.

• Pilot Center, 1435 NW 2. Lunch, noon; snack, 4 p.m.

• St. Jude Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 NW 92. Lunch, 11:30 a.m.; snack, 3:30 p.m.

• Schilling Recreation Center, 539 SE

25. Lunch, 11:30 a.m.; snack, 3:30 p.m.

• Southern Oaks Recreation Center, 400 SW 66. Lunch, noon; snack, 3 p.m.

Elementary school students who already participat­e in the Food for Kids Backpack Program in the district receive an extra bag of food to take home.
