Odell Beckham Jr. has surgery for broken ankle

- FROM WIRE REPORTS

Three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has had surgery for a broken left ankle.

The Giants announced Tuesday that Beckham had the surgery on Monday night in New York.

Beckham was hurt Sunday in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The team said Monday that the surgery was planned for later in the week. It didn't explain the schedule change.

More surgery is expected on fellow wide receivers

Brandon Marshall (ankle) and Dwayne Harris (broken foot). Marshall and Harris were injured Sunday in a game in which four Giants' receivers were hurt.

Former Heritage Hall and OU star receiver Sterling

Shepard is day to day with an ankle injury.

Suspended Gordon hopes for NFL comeback

Revealing he was scared for his life amid another drug relapse, suspended Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon is making his case to be reinstated by the NFL.

Gordon detailed years of substance use, the depths of his addiction and his determination to turn his life around during a 13-minute video released Tuesday on the website Uninterrupted.

The former All-Pro who led the league in yards receiving in 2013 was indefinitely suspended by Commissioner Roger Goodell two years ago following another violation of the league's substanceabuse policy and missed Cleveland's last 38 games.

He's had numerous stints in rehab — most of which he said he didn't take seriously — and the 26-year-old Gordon can re-apply to the league this fall.

In the meantime, Gordon, who was interviewed during a recent three-day leave from the Florida Recovery Center after 70 days in the facility, said he's changed.

"Honestly the whole experience has been humbling and it's humbling every day. Brutally so," Gordon said. "A dose of reality for sure, when you're put in a position to be constricted socially, financially, just all resources exhausted, the ego is diminished to just about nil.

The only thing I know I have to go off of is my faith, family and my ability with football."

A spokesman said the NFL had no comment on Gordon's status.

Gordon said he's had several candid conversations with Goodell, who will determine his professional future.

"He gets a bad rap, because people don't understand him and they don't know him," Gordon said. "But for me, he's a great guy. He's a great man, he's been a friend to me. He's been a mentor to me in a way in which he may not even understand."

No new injury for Bradford, just knee wear and tear

Another MRI on former Putnam City North and OU star quarterback Sam Bradford's left knee has revealed no additional injury, after he was pulled early from the game at Chicago because of continued discomfort.

Vikings head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman said Tuesday that Bradford does not have any ligament damage or bone bruising, just aggravation of the wear and tear in the joint that has hampered him for the past four weeks.

It's a common condition for someone whose knee has undergone two ACL reconstructions.

The Vikings beat the Bears 20-17 behind a strong second-half performance by backup Case Keenum, who started the three previous games in place of Bradford.

Sugarman said there was unanimous confidence on the coaching and medical staffs that Bradford was well enough to start Monday.

Broncos rookie tight end Jake Butt on verge of practicing

The Denver Broncos will soon find out whether their roll of the dice on tight end Jake Butt has a chance to pay off this season.

Coach Vance Joseph said Butt will practice next week for the first time, triggering a 21-day window for the team to decide whether to activate him or officially turn his rookie season into a redshirt year.

"I plan on putting my trust in this coaching staff and the trainers," Butt said Monday. "I feel good. Obviously for me, being a competitor, the sooner I can help this team the better."

Butt, who tore his right ACL in his final college game at Michigan, will practice Monday alongside outside linebacker Shane Ray, who's been out since the first week of training camp with a torn ligament in his left wrist, Joseph said.

Ray is eligible to return to action Oct. 30 against Kansas City. Butt could make his debut a week earlier, against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Butt is a versatile tight end who was considered a first-round pick — maybe even the headliner of a great tight end class — but he slipped to the fifth round after tearing his right ACL against Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

He underwent surgery Jan. 10 to repair the same ACL he tore in 2014.
