Several Millwood players acknowledged they were eager to play this game after losing at Luther two seasons ago. Franklin tried to preach to his guys before the game to play with confidence, but not be cocky.
“We need to control our emotions and let the our play do our talking,” Franklin said. “We got after their quarterback because we knew coming in if we didn’t we would be in trouble. Luther can tear you apart if you let them.”
Millwood sacked Luther quarterback Peyton Wilson three times and forced four turnovers. Middle linebacker Daxx Mccalister forced the first when he intercepted backup quarterback Drew Scheer in the first quarter to set up Millwood’s second touchdown.
On the night, Millwood rushed for 192 yards and six touchdowns, four by junior running back Marcus Major.
Senior defensive tackle Christian Coleman said he thinks his team showed what it was capable of, going up against a potent offense and shutting it down.
“We really take pride in playing hard and fast and sticking it to people on defense,” Coleman said. “We have confidence, and that’s a good thing.”
