Hennessey recovering
Hennessey is rebounding from an 0-5 start to the football season, and running back Dillon Joyce is leading the way. He had four touchdowns last week in a win over Tonkawa.
Hennessey has seen enough of the undefeated or highly-ranked teams to last a few seasons. But it’s finally paying off for the Eagles.
Hennessey won its third-straight game last week, a 28-12 victory over previously undefeated Tonkawa, to continue its recovery from an 0-5 start.
“We were feeling good going into that one,” Hennessey coach Rick Luetjen said. “All of that early season stuff started to pay off for us.”
Hennessey (3-5) has lost to two undefeated teams (Oklahoma Christian Academy and Jones) and three one-loss teams (Chisholm, Alva and Kingfisher). But the three straight wins are a positive sign, and they likely mean the Eagles are playoff bound.
“We were a little concerned that it might be unproductive for us,” Luetjen said of the schedule. “It is what it is. We’ve got better week to week, and we feel like we’ve played better competition than a lot of these teams. We feel like it paid off.”
Hennessey was led by running back Dillon Joyce last week. He scored all four touchdowns with three coming on the ground and other on a kick return. He also rushed for 189 yards.
