Trevor Edgemon answers all questions with huge performance
Trevor Edgemon had some doubts heading into his senior year at Little Axe.
Would he be healthy? Would he get along with his new coaches? Would Little Axe be any good?
Now more than three quarters of the way through the regular season, Edgemon has his answers. Yes. Yes. Yes.
“It feels great to help put us into the position we are now,” Edgemon said. “Going back to the playoffs is something we’ve wanted to do since I was a freshman.”
In a 28-0 victory against Star Spencer on Friday, Edgemon had all the answers. The senior rushed for 229 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, helping Little Axe get the win and clinch a Class 3A playoff spot.
For his performance, Edgemon has been chosen as The Oklahoman's Player of The Week.
Little Axe coach Matt Lane said Edgemon could have had an even bigger game, but the two schools agreed to have a running clock in the second half, limiting the amount of work Edgemon was able to get.
Lane says Edgemon has been an essential team leader and guy he has grown to count on his first year as head coach.
“We don’t have many seniors so Trevor has really stepped up and led by example,” Lane said. “The guys really look to him in big situations for big plays and he is always there to deliver.”
Edgemon missed the majority of his junior season after injuring his shoulder in Week 1 last year. After surgery, he said he was eager to get back out on the field.
“It was so hard to sit on the sidelines last year and just watch,” Edgemon said. “When I got the chance to put pads back on, I was so excited.”
For Lane, he’s happy that he’s been able to bond with his players and to see them achieve the success they have.
“Little Axe was a school I’ve always admired,” Lane said. “These players have really worked hard to get the team back to the playoffs, and we have all bonded really well and it’s been guys like Trevor that have helped us reach our goals.”
