Offensive line health remains a concern this week for Cowboys
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy says he is “hoping” guards Marcus Keyes and Teven Jenkins are healthy enough to play at West Virginia on Saturday, but he didn’t go into detail about the injury status of his offensive linemen.
Keyes, who has started every game at left guard, missed only one play against Texas, while Jenkins missed significant time at right guard last Saturday.
Center Brad Lundblade hung around after Tuesday’s practice to get some extra work on his post-snap footwork. He was in uniform for the Texas game, but did not play and remains day-to-day with a foot injury. Lundblade has now missed two-plus games after getting injured at Texas Tech.
“Before the year, you guys asked me things I was concerned about,” Gundy said. “One was depth of the offensive line. That’s not a position where you can run guys in and out, because it’s hard to keep continuity with the communication.” While senior right tackle
Zach Crabtree has missed a game-and-a-half himself with a turf toe injury, he has played with four different right guards next to him this season.
“We’ve got to get things communicated and we’re working on recognizing things and being on top of our stuff,” Crabtree said. “You’ve got to recognize the front, you’ve got to communicate it and you’ve got to know the scheme of the play.”
Marcell Ateman added to Biletnikoff Award list
The attention and adoration for OSU's wide receiver corps continues to expand.
Wednesday, Cowboys senior Marcell Ateman was added to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, giving OSU three receivers on the list, more than any other school.
Ateman joined James Washington and Jalen McCleskey, both named to the initial list.
After missing all of last season with a foot injury, Ateman has returned to reclaim his status as a playmaker. Through seven games, he has 33 receptions for 655 yards and four touchdowns.
His 19.85 yards-perreception average ranks 17th in the country and fifth in the Big 12. Ateman's 655 yards, second on the team to Washington's 914, and 93.6 average per game also rank in the top 20 nationally.
The Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced live on ESPN Dec. 7 during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Rudolph Record Watch
Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph currently leads the NCAA FBS in passing yards (2,650) and passing yards per game (378.6), and he’s second in yards per completion (16.46) and total yardage per game (386.7).
The senior already holds most of Oklahoma State’s significant passing records, but he has four more he can claim, possibly as soon as Saturday at West Virginia.
With one good game Rudolph can become the school’s all-time leader in wins, passing touchdowns, pass completions and touchdowns responsible for.
Here’s where he stands on those four lists:
* Wins: Rudolph is tied with Mike Gundy for the school record with 28.
* Completions: Rudolph has 758, behind Brandon Weeden’s record of 767.
* Passing touchdowns: Rudolph is one away from tying Weeden’s record of 75.
* TDs responsible for: Rudolph is one shy of tying Zac Robinson’s record of 88.
