Three killed in indcidents on state roadways

Three people are dead following incidents on Oklahoma roadways, authoritie­s report.

Rhonda Elaine Martin, 58, Oklahoma City

About 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Martin was driving a sport utility vehicle west in the 4700 block of SE 44 in Del City. A car traveling east and driven by Tiffany Felicia Carr, 28, of Oklahoma City, went left of center and struck the SUV, Del City police reported.

Martin was taken to a hospital where she later died.

There were six people inside the car at the time of the wreck, including three young children. The children were not injured, but a passenger suffered a non-lifethreat­ening injury, police said.

Police said Carr told investigat­ors that she had been drinking before the accident. She was arrested on a number of complaints, including driving under the influence/manslaught­er, child endangerme­nt, driving left of center and causing an accident without a valid driver’s license that resulted in a death, police said.

Mark Dawson, 52, Pryor About 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Matthew Newcomb, 22, of Tahlequah, was driving a vehicle west on U.S. 412, about one mile east of Chouteau in Mayes County. The vehicle left the road to avoid debris in the roadway and struck a pickup as it reentered the road, causing both vehicles to leave the road and the pickup to roll, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Dawson, a passenger in the pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Darin Dawson, 48, of Pryor, was taken to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition. Seat belts were not in use in the pickup, troopers said.

Newcomb, who was wearing a seat belt, refused treatment at the scene.

Tony Wade Hewitt, Jr., 28, Norman

About 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, Hewitt was walking across 24th Avenue SW, near Wilcox Drive, when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle traveling south, Norman police reported.

He was taken to a hospital where he later died. Witnesses told police that Hewitt was nearly struck by another vehicle as he walked along the street before being hit by the SUV.

The driver of the SUV was not injured. Police said the driver had not been arrested and there was no indication the driver was impaired.
