Bradford faces uncertain future
Minnesota quarterback Sam Bradford was placed on injured reserve Wednesday to make room for former Vikings’ starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
The Vikings activated Bridgewater from the physically unable to perform list. To make room on the 53-man roster, Bradford was placed on injured reserve after having arthroscopic surgery the day before on his left knee, which had ACL tears in 2013 and 2014.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said “no one knows” when asked if Bradford will play again.
“When they went in there, they just cleaned it out,” Zimmer said. “It’s not bone on bone. There’s a lot of good things, but who knows? We didn’t expect it would be this long.”
Bradford, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, led Minnesota to a victory in the season opener over New Orleans by completing 84.3 percent of his passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns.
However, he injured the knee during the game and woke up in pain the next day. He played only one half of one game since then.
Jags’ cornerback offers no apology
Speaking publicly for the first time since he was ejected for instigating a fight with Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green, Jacksonville Jaguars corner back Jalen Ramsey spent 20 minutes Wednesday explaining everything that happened in the first half of Jacksonville’s latest victory.
He offered no apologies but had plenty of remorse for not getting “my money’s worth” in a fight that resulted in both players getting ejected.
Ramsey acknowledged walking to the visitors’ locker room after halftime in an attempt to continue things with Green. He was turned away by several security personnel.
Colts’ Davis upset at demotion
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis is upset he was demoted because of what the team called a noninjury related matter.
The two-time Pro Bowler says he has been limited by a lingering groin injury.
Davis was hurt in the third preseason game at Pittsburgh and missed nearly a month before returning against Seattle on Oct. 1. Since then, even Davis acknowledges he hasn’t played like his old self.
So five days after being left home when the Colts traveled to Houston, Davis vented.
He told reporters he was upset that defensive coordinator Ted Monachino told him of the demotion instead of head coach Chuck Pagano. And he said he felt disrespected.
Packers release Bennett
The Green Bay Packers have waived Martellus Bennett, bringing the tight end’s short tenure at Lambeau Field to a surprising end.
General manager Ted Thompson announced the move on Wednesday after practice.
The Packers cited a “failure to disclose a physical condition” for making the move.
