Jesus House in OKC seeks donations for food baskets
With Thanksgiving approaching, Jesus House is asking for the community’s support of its annual Thanksgiving food basket distribution campaign.
“Our food basket contains everything a family needs to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal,” said Mike Bateman, Jesus House executive director. “Low-income families can come to Jesus House to receive a food basket so they, too, can enjoy a warm holiday meal. We’re asking for donations for everything from turkey and ham to sides and desserts.”
Food baskets will be distributed starting at 8 a.m. on the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 20 and 21. Distribution will continue both days until the designated supplies are exhausted.
Needed items include frozen turkeys or hams, boxed stuffing mix, chicken broth, turkey or chicken gravy mixes, instant mashed potatoes, canned cranberries or cranberry sauce, canned yams and canned vegetables. Dessert mixes and pie fillings are also appreciated.
Donations may be dropped off at Jesus House, 1335 W Sheridan. Normal receiving hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. If donating by check, please include Thanksgiving food baskets in the memo line and mail to Jesus House at P.O. Box 60369 Oklahoma City, OK 73146.
“We gave away more than 1,500 food baskets to needy families last year,” Bateman said. “With an average of four people to a household, we estimate we fed more than 6,000 of our city’s neediest families with this outreach and we hope to do more this year. God’s grace and the generosity of the Oklahoma City community make this program possible.”
