Washington readies for rematch with Chisholm

- ADAM KEMP AND JACOB UNRUH, STAFF WRITERS

Washington coach Brad Beller only wants his team to learn from the past matchups with Chisholm.

They’ve become a frequent playoff rivalry and a nondistrict matchup to the point that both teams know the ins and outs of the other so well.

That makes Friday’s Class 2A game between the two more intriguing.

“The biggest thing is making the guys realize that it is a new game,” Beller said. “They’re different from what they were last year, and they’re different from Week 1. We have to focus on what they’re doing now and how they’ve grown and adapted their schemes throughout the year, and the same thing for us.”

The game will be the fourth matchup in two years. Chisholm won both times last year, but Washington won the Week 1 game in September. Washington also won a 2014 playoff matchup.

“I think mentally the fact that our seniors have seen us beat them, have seen us lose to them, they know what type of game we’re going to be in for,” Beller said.

Last week, Washington rebounded from a Week 10 loss behind a powerful offensive line and star running back Tyler Stuever. He rushed for 216 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries. The Warriors ran for a total of 357 yards.
