Holey Rollers opens in Paseo

Holey Rollers, 3010 Paseo Dr., suite 101, opened in the Paseo Plunge on Tuesday. Initially a food truck from owner and founder Andrea Koester, the “sensible sweets” concept began in 2015 selling baked, vegan doughnuts.

Response was strong enough to allow expansion into catering and wholesale. Holey Rollers ingredients are natural, dairy-free and dyefree with gluten-free options. The new store introduces new menu items including English muffin sandwiches, cage-free eggs, house-made yogurt and fritters.

Koester said Holey Rollers will offer a full line of coffee, and vegan milk made from oats will be prepared in house to accompany the coffee. The full menu will include espresso, teas and kombucha. For non-vegans, milk will come from Marak Family Farm in Meeker. Coffee will be sourced from local roasters, including Elemental, Eote and Kllr.

In addition to the main cafe, Holey Rollers features a patio on the north side of Paseo Plunge, as well as a common area with plenty of seating in the main building.

The store is open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Koester plans to extend the hours after the first of the year. The food truck remains in operation and is available for private events.

Chef Timothy Mort, previously of Urban Agrarian, is the executive chef, and Koester’s partners are Josh Gautreaux and John Otjen.

Here’s to 84 Hospitality

One year after opening Revolución, 916 NW 6, 84 Hospitality has plenty of reason to celebrate.

The Baja-inspired taqueria and cantina started offering $5 Cannonballs on Monday. Anyone who purchases a Cannonball this week will automatically be entered to win tickets to see Lady Gaga at Chesapeake Arena on Dec. 9. The promotion ends Sunday.

Meanwhile, 84 Hospitality’s Rachel Cope also recently announced the group has taken over the Uptown 23rd space formerly occupied by Savings & Loan Bar. The new concept will be called Ponyboy, named for the character in S.E. Hinton’s “The Outsiders.”

Since opening Empire Slice House, 84 Hospitality has also opened Goro Ramen + Izakaya and Easy E, a to-go outlet for Empire.

Refurbishing and redecorating is underway on the first floor of the space, which Cope said she hopes to open first week of December. Plans for the upstairs are further down the road.

Meet The Press

Hungry Town Concepts, which first brought you gourmet-grilled-cheese emporium The Mule then churched-up corn dogs at Anchor Down, has opened The Press, 1610 N Gatewood Drive, in the Plaza District.

Calling its cuisine Southwestern comfort food, the menu was designed by chef Beth Ann Lyon. Her menu ranges from bone-in fried chicken to Indian tacos with a chicken-fried ribeye, meatloaf and vegan options in between. The restaurants offers, lunch/brunch and dinner 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with the bar open until 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Unlike its previous two ventures, Hungry Town’s newest creation won’t be pressed for space. Boasting more than 4,000 square-feet, The Press could fit The Mule and Anchor Down and still have room leftover in the industrial space once home to an auto shop and printing press.
