Lee’s status remains uncertain for Friday

John Marshall star running back Devonte Lee’s status for Friday’s game remains unclear.

Lee suffered a hamstring injury during the first half of last week’s win against Kingfisher and did not return. John Marshall coach Rashaun Woods was unable to provide an update Monday afternoon.

“I can’t discuss that with you right now,” Woods told The Oklahoman.

Lee, a Nevada commitment, has rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 29 touchdowns this season. He was on The Oklahoman’s AllState team as a junior after he rushed for nearly 3,000 yards and 37 TDs.

He said following Friday’s game that he would play this week.

In his absence, Trey Eason had a monster night with 169 yards and four touchdowns to help John Marshall rally in the second half. It was his first big game after dealing with turf toe the past five games.

If Lee cannot go Friday in Idabel, Eason will get the bulk of the carries.

“We’ve got a couple really good guys back there,” Woods said. “It’s good for us. Most teams, if their best running back or something like that goes down you can pretty much write off the season. Fortunately for us, we’ve got some guys in waiting that have done well for us all year and have stepped up.”

State softball tourneys headed back to Shawnee

High school state softball is taking a two-year hiatus from USA Softball Hall of Fame complex due to planned renovations.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association told The Oklahoman that it has agreed to move both fast-pitch and slowpitch state tournaments beginning next fall to FireLake Ball Fields in Shawnee.

“We know that we’re out fall-spring, fall-spring and it could be an additional year,” OSSAA assistant director Amy Cassell said.

Playing the tournaments in Shawnee is not unusual.

FireLake hosted the softball state tournaments for two years from the fall 2013 until spring of 2015 while Hall of Fame Stadium underwent renovations.

“We’re very, very fortunate that the people at Hall of Fame are just sensational to us,” Cassell said. “But when we’re in a bind and don’t have a place to go, FireLake, they are so gracious and kind as well. We’re really, really fortunate.”
