Oklahoma guard Trae Young scored 33 points and led the Sooners to a 93-71 win over Portland on Friday at the PK80 Invitational.

Oklahoma bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 93-71 men's basketball win over Portland on Friday at the PK80 Invitational. The Sooners will face either Oregon or DePaul in the consolation finals Sunday.

Here are three observations from the win:

Trae Young, again

Eventually, Trae Young won’t be able to increase his scoring output from the game before.

But through four games, Young’s scoring has steadily increased, from 15 to 22 to 28 and finally Friday to 33 points. As important, though, was that Young did it in a relatively efficient manner.

Young was 11 of 18 from the floor, including 3 of 8 from the 3-point line. He also hit all eight of his free throws and added eight assists and five rebounds. Young is now 25 of 29 at the free-throw line this season.

Lattin asserts himself

Consistency has been an issue for senior forward Khadeem Lattin, but he's been much more assertive on the offensive end this season when he’s been able to avoid foul trouble.

Against Portland, Lattin scored 19 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.

The Sooners hadn’t had a player with more than 10 rebounds in any game this season. OU out-rebounded Portland 40-29.

Lattin played 30 minutes for the second consecutive game.

He also had a pair of blocks, to become just the fourth player in Sooners history with 180 or more career blocks. Wayman Tisdale is third on OU’s career list with 209.

Lineup change

For the first time this season, the Sooners used a different starting lineup, with Kameron McGusty starting in place of the injured Rashard Odomes. Odomes suffered an ankle injury in Thursday’s loss to Arkansas.

McGusty played 24 minutes Friday, going 3 of 8 from the floor and making just one of his five 3-point tries.

Odomes has been the Sooners’ best defender this season, so losing him for any significant length of time would be a big loss.

While McGusty picked up part of Odomes’ minutes, Christian James played a season-high 34 minutes.

James struggled from the field, going just 4 of 12 and 3 of 9 from behind the 3-point line.
