See The Oklahoman’s selections for the boys and girls All-City cross country teams.
Bennett Barnett, Mount St. Mary
Class: Senior
The Story: After finshing eighth last year in Class 4A, Barnett took home a third-place finish this year and helped deliver the boys team title.
Steven Clark, Deer Creek Class: Junior
The Story: Helped lead the way for most of the year for the Deer Creek boys team, finishing fifth overall at state.
Runner of the year:
Jed Helker, Edmond Memorial Class: Senior
The Story: During a frustrating season plagued by illness, Helker made the most of his final race and delivered a dominating performance at the state meet, finishing first overall with a time of 15:46.91 and helping Memorial take home second place.
Clifford Littleton, Shawnee Class: Junior
The Story: After finishing a disappointing 46th overall in Class 5A last year, Littleton moved up to race Class 6A and delivered an incredible time of 16:14.77 to place eighth overall at the state meet.
Vlad Munteanu,
Class: Senior
The Story: The senior runs cross country to stay in shape for soccer, but that doesn’t stop him from competing with the best of the best at every meet and claiming seventh place at the state meet.
Stillwater Gabe Simonsen, Mustang Class: Freshman
The Story: The youngest runner in the top 50 at the state meet, Simonsen looked poised and polished as he finished with a time of 16:13.54 and a sixth-place finish.
Jackson Wedge, Deer Creek Class: Senior
The Story: Finished right outside of a medal with his fourth-place finish at state, but was a dominant runner all year for Deer Creek.
Coach Of The Year:
Frezer Legesse, Mount St. Mary The Story: In his first year coaching, Legesse helped lead the Rockets to a team title with a dominant performance at state in which seven of the team’s runners finished in the top 25 overall.
