Aber votes Oklahoma as No. 1

Oklahoma might not be No. 1 when the College Football Playoff selection committee makes its rankings known Tuesday night.

But the Sooners should be.

The Sooners, with wins over Ohio State, Oklahoma State and TCU, have a better overall resume than any team in the country. Yes, their loss to Iowa State wasn't good, but while losses matter, wins matter more. Even comparing losses, Clemson's loss to Syracuse is significantly worse than OU's, even if the committee wants to disregard it.

Clemson's win over Auburn was excellent, but its early season schedule has been degraded somewhat other than that. Clemson is a strong No. 2.

Auburn is No. 3, with wins over Georgia and Alabama just in recent weeks. The Tigers' two losses (Clemson, LSU) still give them a better resume than undefeated Wisconsin. The Badgers' lack of Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan State on their conference slate as well as a supremely

underwhelming nonconference schedule of Utah State, Florida Atlantic and BYU hurts them, even with an undefeated record. A win over Ohio State in the Big Ten title game would certainly help, but right now their best win is probably Northwestern.

The hardest part of the poll came at the end, as I tried to search for the final three teams, settling on Fresno State, San Diego State and Mississippi State.
