PLAYER OF THE YEAR Tuttle’s Macy McAdoo has become dominant pitcher

Tuttle junior Macy McAdoo kept tabs on other pitchers around the state.

When they had a big game, or reached an impressive statistical feat, she only wanted to do more. Then she made sure to prove she was better.

She worked on her fastball. She worked on her command. She even delivered pep talks to her teammates.

“I just tried to work every day as hard as possible,” McAdoo said. “I’d tell my team we’re going to win this no matter what we go through.”

As McAdoo became a force, so did Tuttle with a second straight Class 4A state championship.

An Oklahoma commitment, she struck out 303 and allowed just 27 earned runs in 195 innings. She is The Oklahoman’s Little All-City Player of the Year.

“She knew that she could depend on her teammates if she was to get in trouble, and I think that really helped her relax and go dominate everyone,” Tuttle coach Rebecca Cobb said.

But McAdoo wasn’t always that way.

She entered varsity play as a cocky freshman. She had dominated the travel ball circuit and she was determined that would work in high school play.

Instead, it took some time to adjust.

Entering her sophomore year, she had found a new drive after attending a prospect camp at OU. The Sooners’ staff liked what it saw, but did not offer a scholarship. Instead, it set goals for McAdoo.

Cut down the walks. Get more velocity. Get stronger.

After dominating Class 4A last year, she had met those goals. OU offered and she committed.

This fall, she didn’t succumb to the pressure of being an OU commit. Instead, she thrived and met more of her goals.

“I’ve met the standard so far,” McAdoo said. “I think I can meet more, though.”

Now, she’s fully concentrated on improving, and at a rapid pace.

She still walks a lot of batters — 70 this fall — but she’s got her fastball to 69 mph with the goal to surpass 70 by the time she moves to Norman.

McAdoo also wants a third straight state championship. That would be one more way to prove she’s one of the best.

“Three titles would be icing on top of the cake, because going back-toback-to-back would be amazing,” McAdoo said. “I wish I could do four times, but I can’t.”
