Children’s Center is making list of needs
It’s that time of year again; the kiddos are making their lists and checking them twice! The average child is requesting video games, dolls and the latest electronics; however, the kids at The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital have an additional request this year.
“The need for diapers is always in high demand, especially when you go through 6,700 a week!” said Melissa Richey, director of communications and marketing.
The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital has significant history dating back to 1898; founded by Mattie Mallory, the hospital started out as an orphanage in downtown Oklahoma City. Today, the center serves as a private nonprofit hospital, serving children with complex medical and physical disabilities in Bethany.
The hospital is preparing for its 11th annual holiday helper campaign. The holiday helper campaign strives for diaper donations, last year the hospital went through 250,000 diapers, and that still wasn’t quite enough.
“The holiday helper campaign, allows the community with the opportunity to get involved with the diaper drive; enabling more of the hospitals funds to go towards life sustaining items,” Richey said.
The holiday helper campaign is currently running now through New Year’s Day. The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital accepts donations daily in the hospital’s main lobby between 9 a.m. through 9 p.m.; the hospital is at 6800 NW 39 Expressway in Bethany.
