Speaker to delve into Italian record research
The Edmond Genealogical Society will be delving into “Researching Italian Records” at its Dec. 18 meeting.
Doug Garone, a member of the Italians of Central Oklahoma and The Order Italian Sons & Daughters of America, will present the program at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in Edmond.
Garone inherited his family’s genealogy 11 years ago and will speak about how he researched his family’s history by contacting residents in Padula, Salerno, his great-grandfather’s ancestral hometown. He also will speak on how he found his Italian descendants using the Antenati website https://www. antenati.san.beniculturali.it in conjunction with the Family Search website to navigate the unindexed archives, as well as how to translate the basic nati (birth), morti (death) and matrimonio (marriage) records.
Garone also is a member of the Edmond Genealogy Society and an Edmondbased financial adviser and retirement specialist at Edward Jones.
The society meeting is free and open to the public. Parking and entry to the church is through the rear of the building.
The Edmond Genealogical Society meets on the third Monday evening of each month, with speakers on subjects of interest to genealogists and historians. Membership is open to anyone interested in historical or genealogical research. For more information, go to www.rootsweb.ancestry. com/~okegs/
Next month’s presentation will be Jan. 15 and feature speaker Pat McFall, DAR vice president general, who will be speaking on the “DAR Application Process & Database.”
