Ridiculous statement

Michael Barnett (Your Views, Dec. 8) argues for Nazi-like gun control with a ridiculous statement that more people in America have been killed by guns in the past 50 years than in all of America’s wars combined! If anyone believes that nonsense then I have some swampland for sale in D.C. His “vision for America” seems eerily like Hitler’s vision for Austria and the rest of the world back in the 1930s. Study your history!

A great workplace

Regarding “Oklahoma’s TopWorkplaces 2017” (Business Supplement, Dec. 10): I have to assume surveyors never made their way to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office. If they had, I have zero doubt the office would have placed high on the list, perhaps in the top spot. In my five decades of being a part of the workforce, I have never seen such a united, dedicated and rewarding culture. I’ve experienced it through the feedback I’ve received during the past five years or so from numerous ME employees I’ve had the privilege of socializing with during off hours, who, to a person, couldn’t talk more glowingly, more positively or more appreciatively of a great many aspects of their jobs.

These folks don’t get paid well, nor

are there any material perks, but they love what they do — and what they do is not simple, by any stretch — and they love each other. From the chief medical examiner to the newly hired tech, they work for each other and for the families of the recently departed citizens of Oklahoma. It’s a wonderful thing to witness.

Some increase!

I couldn’t agree more with Anne Rodgers (Your Views, Dec. 9). We seniors receive little to nothing over the years and then we’re told about this whopping 2 percent increase, which according to the Social Security Administration is the largest in six years. Of course, they didn’t bother to mention the Part B premium would increase from $109 to $134 and with the increase in my Part D prescription of $12.70, I will be getting $11 less. Explain to me again how this 2 percent “increase” is the largest in six years.
