Thunder to host blood drivE

The Oklahoma Blood Institute and the Oklahoma City Thunder will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Convention Center downtown.

All donors will receive a T-shirt and be entered for a chance to win a pair of game tickets. Parking is free in the garage beneath the convention center during the blood drive, and kids entertainm­ent is available.

Summer program is recruiting

The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is accepting applicatio­ns for its Fleming Scholars Program.

Students in the program spend eight weeks working in the lab with profession­als. The program is open to high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Participan­ts are paid and may be eligible for housing.

State officials are named

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services named Patrick Klein director of adult and family services.

The previous director, Jim Struby, retired Nov. 29. Klein will oversee food assistance, child care subsidies, cash assistance, utility assistance, some disability benefits and SoonerCare eligibilit­y. He has worked at the department since 1990.

The state Health Department named Kim Bailey as chief operating officer and Margot Barnes as director of human resources.

Bailey previously worked as executive director and general counsel of the Oklahoma Worker’s Compensati­on Commission, and as an assistant attorney general. Barnes previously worked as administra­tor for classifica­tion, compensati­on and unemployme­nt benefits for the state DHS.
