Timberwolves’ Teague out indefinitely
The Minnesota Timberwolves say point guard Jeff
Teague will be sidelined indefinitely because of a knee injury.
The Wolves announced Thursday before taking on the Bucks that Teague would not play in Milwaukee. They said later than an MRI revealed a sprain in his left knee.
He limped off the court Wednesday night in the final minute of the fourth quarter of the team's overtime victory over Denver. Teague had 11 points and 10 assists before departing, with Tyus Jones taking his place in the lineup.
The 29-year-old Teague, in his first season with the Wolves, is averaging a career-high 34.2 minutes per game, with 13.4 points and 7.3 assists and a 44.7 field goal percentage. He missed four games last month because of an Achilles injury on his right foot.
Spurs rest Leonard against Knicks
Kawhi Leonard was a late scratch from the San Antonio Spurs' lineup against the New York Knicks as his playing time remains limited following his return from a quad injury.
Thursday night's game was the fourth time Leonard has sat out for what the Spurs listed as "return from injury management."
Leonard has played in five games this season after missing the first 27 with right quadriceps tendinopathy, which causes pain in the tendon. The 6-foot-7 forward attributed the injury to "wear and tear" and said it started bothering him in the offseason.
Leonard had been listed as probable on Thursday. The All-Star set season highs in points (21) and minutes (26) in San Antonio's win over Brooklyn on Tuesday.
Pacers sign Alex Poythress that ends two-way label
The Indiana Pacers have signed forward Alex Poythress to a new contract that will end his two-way designation.
Terms of the deal were not immediately available Thursday.
Poythress started the season shuttling between the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the G League and the Pacers. But after watching him in 11 games, Indiana decided to keep Poythress with the NBA team. He's averaging 0.9 points and 0.7 rebounds.
